Using Waypoints effectively is a great way to keep track of your assets, like treestands, blinds, and
trail cameras, but also the perfect tool to record your observations and discoveries of the natural
resources deer relate to. This premium feature is exclusive to DeerCast Elite+ or DeerCast UNLIMITED subscribers. Follow the directions below to learn how to add, modify, share, and navigate to a Waypoint on DeerCast.
How to Add a Waypoint
- To place a waypoint, tap the Tools button. It’s the plus sign in the hexagon located on the right of
your map screen. - Then, select Waypoint. DeerCast will now show a hex reticle that allows you to pan and zoom on the map for precision placement. When you’re happy with the location, just tap the Place Waypoint button.
- Doing this brings up the waypoint creation screen where you can add a title, pick an icon and its
color, add a photo, attach a description, and even save multiple photos to it. I suggest being as
descriptive as possible when creating a waypoint because the more waypoints you have, and the
longer they’re out there, the more likely it is you’ll forget key details, especially as the sheer number
of waypoints you place grows. It gets harder to remember as time goes on, so do your best at the
moment to add all the pertinent details.
How to Modify a Waypoint
- Your first step is to ensure the Waypoints Layer is turned on. It’s the stacked squares in the hex button in the upper right-hand corner of the map screen. With the waypoints layer enabled, you can see any waypoint you’ve created.
- Navigate to the waypoint you’d like to change, tap it, then, in the info box that appears, tap the
three vertical options icon on the right side of the box. - Tap Edit to change the title for the waypoint, select a different icon, change the color, add or
remove a photo and change the description if you like. Make it official by tapping Save.
How to Share a Waypoint
- Like before, the first step is to ensure the Waypoints Layer is turned on.
- Tap Share and the location and other details for the waypoint will be copied to your device’s clipboard, for you to share over text, email, or really any way you want to!
How to Navigate to a Waypoint
- The same way you edit and share a waypoint, your first step is to ensure the Waypoints Layer is turned on.
- Tap Directions and you’ll be able to choose your preferred mapping service depending on those available on your device. Once you make a choice, DeerCast will open your third-party mapping service (which is usually Apple or Google) and that app will create a route for you.
