On a blood trail, shed hunting, sharing access to a stand, or ensuring you've fully covered your food
plot with fertilizer or seed, DeerCast Path Tracker creates a GPS track you can save to reference
later Of course, in order for Path Tracker to work properly, especially if you background the app, be
sure you’ve enabled location services to be always on for DeerCast. Please note that while you can background your DeerCast app while it’s recording a path, shutting the app down completely will erase your track.
Follow the directions below to use the Path Tracker on DeerCast.
- To start a path, open the map tab in your navbar. It’s the folded map icon on the left side near the
DeerCast home tab. Then, tap the Tools button. It’s plus sign in the hexagon on the right side of the
map screen. Swipe to the left through the other tools until you see the Path Tracker button, then
tap it. - DeerCast is now ready to begin recording your movement. All you have to do is tap Start Tracking.
Once you do that, you’ll notice a white breadcrumb trail tracing your path. On the lower left of your
map screen, DeerCast will report your GPS signal strength, total time on the track, distance covered, and total elevation change. While Path Tracker is recording your progress, you still have the ability to pan and zoom around on the map. - When you’re ready to end the track job, just tap the Stop button. You’ll be offered the option to
either delete the track or save it. - After you select Save, you’ll get a prompt allowing you to select what kind of path this is, like a hike, or blood trail, access to a stand, shed hunting, or even marking a game trail. Give it a title. The date
defaults to the date the track was saved, but you can change it to whatever you want. You can also
add a short description to reference later. - Once you tap save, your path will be viewable with the Path Tracker layer turned on, which
DeerCast will conveniently ask if you’d like to turn it on. Once enabled, you’ll be able to see all your
previously saved paths on the map. Tap on them to reveal stats and details. Edit or delete the path
by tapping the three vertical dot button in the upper right of the details modal.
Pausing Path Tracker
If for any reason you need to pause your track, just tap the pause button at the bottom of the
screen. It’ll change to a play button while your track is paused. Just tap that play button to resume
your track.
Sometimes, to get where you want to go you need to know where you’ve been, and Path Tracker is
an invaluable tool to do just that! Get it for your hunting adventures and land management work
