Improve your ground game with a map purpose-built for whitetail hunting! Set waypoints, create &
manage food plots, measure distances, access parcel data, check the wind, record GPS tracks, and
more! DeerCast Map was purpose-built for you, the whitetail hunter.
Access DeerCast Maps from the navbar. It’s the folded map icon on the lower left side. Once
opened, the map will be centered on your current location. Since DeerCast uses your GPS signal
for mapping and your DeerCast forecast, be certain you’ve enabled location services within your
operating system for the best experience.
Here’s how to enable your location services:
- iOS users tap settings, then scroll down to DeerCast, tap Location, then select either While
Using the App, or Always. - If you’re on an Android device, go to Settings, then tap Location, then tap App Permissions,
then tap DeerCast. Choose either Allow all the time or Allow only while using the app.
In this initial view of your map, there’s a deer movement summary in the upper left for where your
DeerCast location is set. This DeerCast summary is independent of where your map happens to be
centered.
In the upper right is your Layers button. It looks like a hexagon with stacked squares in it. These
layers allow you to view map items you’ve created like waypoints, parcel data, weather radar,
distance measurements, saved paths, food plots, rain stations, and any maps you’ve downloaded
offline.
We have more in-depth tutorials for each of these individual layers. Just browse our DeerCast 101
library here in the DeerCast 101 Tutorial Videos section of the DeerCast Support Page.
On the lower right of the mapping screen a compass indicates the orientation of your map. The
plus sign in the hexagon is your tool button. Tap it to place items on your map like a Rain Station,
Wind Check, Plots, Areas, Waypoints, start a GPS Path Track, measure distance, or download and
enable an offline map.
That’s a lot of tools, but don’t worry. We’ve got tutorials on those, too, here in the DeerCast 101
Tutorial Videos Section.
The next button toggles the type of map displayed. Choose from satellite imagery, a topographic
map, or a terrain map that includes contour lines.
If you’ve been panning around on the map and want to recenter it on your current location, just tap
the reticle button and the map hops back to your location.
If you’re searching for a particular city or town, just pop open the magnifying glass and start typing
in the location. Once it populates in the list, tap it and the map will jump right to it.
We’re whitetail hunters at our core and we built DeerCast Maps from the ground up for that
purpose. Integrated within DeerCast, it’s a devastatingly deadly tool to help you prep, plan, and
pursue your deer!
So go ahead and map out your best season ever with DeerCast Maps!
